Exceptional
Craftsmanship

Hi I’m Clair, Co-founder of Chestnut Shepherds Huts, a small business based on the beautiful North Devon Coast. We have a mission to build ‘take your breath away’ huts traditionally and sustainably crafted, right down to the hand forged bolts! We want to build these cosy jewels of loveliness for people who have always dreamed of having one!

I have a business background and have been in antiques and interiors previously, so I am in my element enjoying planning layouts and playing with colour schemes and looking for funky and authentic fixtures and fittings. I do this because I love that kind of thing but for those of you that have very clear ideas of your own, please bring them with you and let’s have a brew!

This all started when I went looking to buy a Shepherds hut of my own and was faced with two issues; the ones I liked due to the quality and finish were out of my budget and the ones that were cheaper, definitely looked cheaper. I live in Devon, and want and need something cosy in winter and cool and summer and sound and rain proof all year. I want it to be a special place to be, not just for me, but for my children and grandchildren and beyond. And I figured this was possible to achieve at reasonable price. So I talked to my good friend Kevin, (who I’ll tell you all about), and after several cups of tea (the prelude to all good ideas) in a nutshell Chestnut was born!

Questions? Please ask!

I’m sure you are intrigued about pricing right, but as everything is bespoke to you, we probably need to chat first!

My good friend Kevin, with a career dedicated to the art & craft of carpentry. He started out at Elstree Studios and worked in the film industry for many years as their senior carpenter, helping design and make sets for amazing things like the millennium Volcun from Star Wars, The Shining sets and iconic sets from Indiana Jones (just to name drop a few you might know!)

Moving his family from London to Devon in 2002 he ran his own successful carpentry business as well as running his farm for rescue animals. and West Park Farm, is where we are now making the huts too!

We have collaborated together on many work projects in the past and I knew he would be exactly the right person for this project, so together with my lovely husband Simon and Kev’s lovely wife Karen, we are the current team of Chestnut!
